We enjoy every residential roof replacement project we undertake in Bristol, PA, and the surrounding area, but the opportunity to help members of our community in their time of need truly makes our work worthwhile. That’s why our Holiday Roof Giveaway is such a cherished annual tradition, and why we were so honored to provide the Hawkeys with a sturdy, weatherproof new roof to keep them warm, safe, and healthy all winter long.
Patricia Hawkey is a two-time cancer survivor who beat breast cancer in the 1990s. Now, at the age of 74, she is in the midst of a two-year battle with lung cancer. She receives regular checkups at Fox Chase Cancer Center but continues to work to help support her family.
The Croydon home Patricia shares with her husband needed a new roof, as poor insulation had led to condensation and mold growth on the plywood. Concerned that Patricia’s health was being negatively impacted by these roofing issues, her sister nominated her for our Holiday Roof Giveaway, saying that a new roof would be “a lifesaver.”
That’s all we needed to hear! The A. Brooks Construction Kanga Roof team visited the Hawkey’s and got to work, installing new insulation and baffles to create proper ventilation, installing brand new plywood, and adding blown-in insulation to their attic to bring it up to the correct R-rating. Their chimney was in danger of falling apart, so we secured it. We also installed new gutters and GAF shingles to create a strong ice and water shield to protect the Hawkey’s and their home from the winter elements.
Witnessing the Hawkey’s reaction to their new roof was the real highlight of the experience, as it is every year when we complete a Holiday Roof Giveaway project.

We wish you all a happy, healthy new year!
