Now Serving The Poconos

You’re afraid you might need a new roof.  Your energy bills are soaring, and you can’t remember the last time someone was even up there.  It’s important to replace your roof once it starts to get older.  A typical roof can last between 20 and 25 years—but how can you tell if your roof is old?  Here are 5 things to look for when thinking about getting a new roof or general maintenance.  Call today and schedule your 17 point roof inspection today!

Dark Spots

If you have shingles that face the sunlight check for dark patches on their surface. This is a huge sign that you need a new roof. Shingles have a layer of stone granules that protect it’s asphalt layer from UV rays of the sun. When the stones shed from the shingles, the asphalt that is exposed leaves those dark spots. That is a big sign that it’s time for a 17 point inspection.

Curling or Buckling

If you notice that the shingles on your roof are curling it could mean your shingles are past their life expectancy.  Improperly applied felt, wrinkled underlayment, roof deck movement, or poor ventilation can cause buckling.  Attic ventilation plays a key role in improving high temperatures in attic spaces. If these temperatures can’t escape through ventilation it affects the shingles above them.  If you notice your roof curling or buckling it’s time to get a 17 point inspection!

Gutters

When you find extreme amounts of roofing granules in your gutters, valleys or around downspouts, it’s a sure sign that your roof is ready to be replaced as soon as possible.  The older a roof gets, the more granules it will lose– and you’re probably going to find them in your gutters.  Don’t wait too long to contact a professional.  The more granules you lose the more vulnerable your roof becomes.

Indoor Damage

A bad roof can cause a number of damages to your home.  You could find leaks in your attic; the paint could start to peel.  You’ll see ceiling stains, or mold and mildew begin to appear.  All of these things are caused by bad ventilation or leakage from a bad roof.  If you see these things in your home it’s time to get your 17 point inspection!

Outdoor Damage

Along with damage to the interior of your home, the exterior of your home could suffer due to an old roof.  Paint could peel off of the exterior of your home.  Your sheathing or siding could start to decay due to poor attic ventilation.  If you have those dark spots we mentioned earlier, then your home isn’t looking very good.  You should replace that old roof before any more damage is done to your home!
